By following the tips below, you can be assured that you will strengthen your body’s immune system during the winter season.
1 ~ Get adequate water – You remember the article about drinking water, right?! Well with the winter season here, it’s more important than ever to consume the amounts that are adequate for you.
2 ~ Keep stress to a minimum — There have been studies recently that have linked high stress levels to making a person more susceptible to catching colds and flu. Keep your stress to a minimum by working reasonable hours at work. Aim for at least one night per week to spend with friends and family. If your stress is out of hand and you feel like you need some help, let me know. I frequently work with people with stress / emotional challenges and utilize the Bach Flower Remedies to bring your emotional health, back into balance. Be sure to read my post about the flowers here.
3 ~ Healthy eating – Of course maintaining a good healthy diet comprised of fresh fruits, vegetables, and organic meats is another way to keep your body clean and in good working order! Try eating an extra piece of fruit or veggie every day!
4 ~ Supplements – Even if we all eat perfectly well all the time with loads of fresh fruits and vegetables, we will need to supplement our diet with nutritional supplementation. What you will need, depends significantly on what your lifestyle is. If you’re wanting to supplement your lifestyle, let me know and I can help design a program for you. But here are some general guidelines of supplements I especially recommend during this time of year:
Young Living Thieves & Purification – These two powerful therapeutic essential oils are a MUST HAVE to protect yourself against bacteria. Thieves has been University tested and found to be highly effective against airborne bacteria. They are very POWERFUL when mixed together. I just get an empty mist/spray bottle and fill with water. Then I add 10 drops of each of these oils to it. Shake vigorously and spray around your house! This will kill airbone bacteria and other pollutants to help keep your air fresh and pure and your lungs free from toxins! Be sure to not spray directly on top of fine furnishings as the oils and water could have a detrimental effect. I usually spray a few feet above the carpeting around fine furniture and directly above head when there is nothing underneath for the oils/water to hurt.
Young Living NingXia Red- NingXia Red offers the highest protection against the dangerous superoxide free radical as tested by Brunswick Laboratories’ S-ORAC test; contains the power of the whole Ningxia wolfberry; formulated to maintain and support normal immune function; contains five of the richest sources of free-radical-fighting antioxidants: wolfberry puree, blueberry, pomegranate, apricot, and raspberry juices; includes the essential oils of lemon and orange, which contain the phytochemical d-limonene to promote normal cell life cycles. Normally this is recommended about 1 oz. per day; but during cold & flu season, I increase mine sometimes to 3 oz. per day.
5 ~ Exercise regularly – It is important to exercise regularly, even if it’s only for 15 minutes a day! Get out and take a short walk and enjoy the cooler weather.
6 ~ Get adequate sleep — The average person needs six to eight hours of sleep per night. If you’re not getting that kind of sleep, your body is extremely vulnerable to getting sick. Sleep is like recharging your batteries! You’ve got to do it in order to keep the machine running. Aim for one night in the middle of the week to get to bed an hour earlier.
7 ~ Wash your hands regularly – Keep those bacteria and viruses off of your hands and out of your mouth and eyes. Keep a bottle of hand sanitizer close-by for those instances where you can’t get to soap and water.
8 ~ No smoking – If you smoke, quit! I realize you know this, but it bears repeating as smoking significantly weakens your immune system. If you want to quit and have tried all the other methods, let me know. I have a great Stop Smoking Solution, so let me know if I can help.
9 ~ Eliminate ALL forms of sugar. This includes not only the obvious kinds (cake, cookies, etc.), but bread, pasta, rice, yogurt and fruit juices. Although different types of sugars, they still turn to sugar in the body and compromise your immune system.
10 ~ Despite your best efforts, sometimes we still can sometimes feel like we’re “coming down with something”. Do the following to help your body recover quickly: Eliminate all dairy products; Eliminate all alcohol; Eliminate all grains (bread, rice, pasta, etc.); Boost your Vitamin C (with bioflavanoids) intake when you initially feel something coming on; Boost your intake of Zinc; Increase water consumption (even more than normal!); Eat less food as this will give your body a much needed rest from digestion and give it a chance to concentrate on fighting off potential invaders; If you’re taking Young Living NingXia Red, increase your dosage. Add herbs like Echinacea, Goldenseal and Grapefruit Seed Extract to your supplemental regime; Get more rest than normal. If you normally get 6 hours of sleep a night, try increasing to 7 or 8. Increase the recommended supplementation above.
Those are just some simple things to do to increase your body’s immune system to keep you healthy and well during the winter season! If you want to discuss this topic further or consult with me about additional supplements, please feel free to Contact Me.
