P4063080 (Small)My name is Melissa Wood and I am a Naturopathic Doctor, Health and Wellness Coach, Licensed Massage Therapist and Aromatherapy Consultant located in San Antonio, Texas.  I have been studying alternative and natural medicine for over 20 years.  Over the past 8 1/2 years, I have had the pleasure of being part of a holistic and natural wellness clinic here in San Antonio.  Now working independently, I’ll be offering many new Services to help you in your quest for better health.

For those of you who don’t know what a Naturopathic Doctor is, let me explain.  My training and schooling has been in natural therapies….I have been schooled and have studied all about nutrition, herbs, plants/flowers and other therapies like homeopathy, massage therapy, aromatherapy, etc.  Unlike most MD’s, Naturopath’s look to find the root cause of an illness and then, recommend nutritional therapies to correct the imbalance(s).  We do not (1) diagnose disease or conditions, nor (2) prescribe any kind of prescription medications.  We don’t believe that mass-prescribing of prescription medications is in your best interest to try to get you healthy.  One drug causes side effects, whereby you need another drug to correct.  Then that drug causes side effects whereby you need yet another drug to correct.  Then that drug….well, you get the picture, right?  All those drugs….not so good for us in the long run.   Certainly there are times when medication can be advised, but also nutritional therapies can be used in conjunction with traditional therapies to help too.  Before it seems as though I’m slamming Medical Doctor’s, let me be clear…I’m not.  They are vitally needed; for instance if you get into a car accident, it is best you go immediately to an ER!  Also, I believe that the traditional medical community and those of us in the natural health field, can work together.  There is a place for both types of healing modalities when it comes to the health and wellness of everyone.

Naturopath’s do suggest nutritional and lifestyle changes for you to make in your life and offer suggestions for natural and herbal therapies that you can take to help you find your healthy balance again.  These suggestions can be simple things like a hot bath with Epson Salts or certain types of teas to drink.  They can also be more indepth nutritional therapies where herbal extracts, essential oils or therapies like massage would be recommended to correct an imbalance within the body.

My personal passion is to help as many people as possible and open their eyes to “another way” to look at health.  The way that doesn’t include 10 different prescription drug medications (the average number of prescriptions that new clients coming to see me are taking).  The way that says there are things you can do….simple things…..to maintain your health, to get healthy (if you’re not right now) and to stay healthy for the rest of your life!  My hope for this blog is that it will expose you to different ideas and resources of natural things you can do in your life to help your body be healthier!

My mission is for everyone on this planet to be healthy. To have choices in their health and healing. To take responsibility for their own health by constantly questioning, investigating and seeking out truth when it comes to their health.  My goal that is part of that vision, is to provide information that will provide you with new insights that are useful in your path to wellness.  I envision a time when everyone will seek out herbs, essential oils, vitamins, minerals and whole food (no processed food!) to help heal themselves as these are very powerful tools for enhancing your health and wellbeing

Soon I will be offering Health Classes; these will be done in person and also over the internet in an Online format.  Please be sure to check out my Classes page.  Also, be sure to read what people are saying about my services here in Testimonials.

If you are truly ready to put yourself first and make your health a #1 priority in your life, let’s get started!  I am happy to answer any questions about the natural health services that I provide.  I can be reached:  (210) 884-1481 or you can email me using the form here Remember that even if you are not in the San Antonio area, that I can still assist you with your health and help you feel better!  Telephone consultations are available and can be done at your convenience from the comfort and privacy of your home.

  1. Hi Melissa,

    Goodness, I had no idea you were a Naturopathic Doctor! I asked a couple of times but didn’t get a clear answer. I can guess a couple of good reasons for that!

    My brother who lives in Austin just bought some sort of machine like the one on this site and swears by it for weight loss and overall health. Of course, you know that my knee problems are largely due to too much weight – a lifetime problem. I’ve tried and failed at everything except a machine like you’re offering. My compulsion is not particularly strong right now but still I won’t take the steps to give up the weight. Yes, even though I’m facing a dreaded surgery I still won’t lose. I must consider the options.

    The site is lovely and, of course, hits me at the source. Thanks for sharing it. Cheers! Jackie

  2. Melissa,

    connected. Just stumbled across your website by “accident.”
    And it’s a great site … good job! Question … what
    machine is Jackie Hinton referring to in her email?
    ~~~~Thanks, Delphia
  6. Hi Delphia! Great to hear from you and I’m glad you like my site! How interesting that you “accidentally” got here! Jackie is referring to the post I wrote about My #1 Recommendation to Improve Your Health. You can read the post here:
  7. Hi, I just came across you site and was very impressed as to see how I feel about “opening” peoples eyes to alternative medicines. I am with a company called Zrii and would like for you to check out my website. I also have a group on facebook called-Take a shot at wellness-for which I am just getting started.I have no degree or schooling but am an avid user of “alternative” medicine and would like to educate more people on the great things they do for us. Thankyou for looking-Valerie
